‘23.5’ Initial Review: An Adorable Introduction to Sun and Ongsa’s Universe

23.5

Is GMMTV’s first-everGL series worth watching? The short answer is: YES!!!

23.5

‘23.5’ starts off strongly with perfectly executed comedic scenes that are not trying hard to capture its intended audience. The first episode served as the introduction of the characters, with Sun (Love Pattranite) and Ongsa (Milk Pansa) at the forefront. We get a glimpse of Ongsa, a province girl, who just recently moved to Bangkok to continue her studies. She gets culture-shocked with how fast-paced everything is in the city. Feeling overwhelmed on the first day of school, and having the dilemma of actually getting to school, she finally meets someone who managed to get her to S-TAR, which turned out to be Sun. Ongsa was left speechless seeing her online crush in the flesh.

This did not diminish her social anxiety, however. As is what young students experience, Ongsa had a hard time adjusting to a new school with new people. Although there were some nice people like Sun, there were also mean bullies like the ones who took a video of her without her consent, leading her to become a butt of all jokes not even a week in school! Although it has been a tough past few days for Ongsa, it was also made clear that she was not alone when fellow classmates, especially her older sister, called out the bullies and let them know what they did wrong.

23.5

The first episode showed a great introduction to a universe that the audience will delve into. It showed a lot of diverse characters with different sexual orientations, which is a delight for LGBTQ+ representation. Although short, the pilot episode definitely captured the light-hearted youth rom-com that is very promising, especially for GL and MilkLove fans alike. ‘23.5’ is definitely worth checking out!

‘23.5’ airs every 9:30 PM GMT+8 on GMMTV and 10:30 PM uncut re-runs on Netflix which will exclusively stream in Southeast Asia and Latin America. It will be shown on GMMTV’s official YouTube account for other countries not available on Netflix.
