Controversy strikes at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards! Also known as the VMAs, this event is an annual award show to celebrate artists in the music industry and their achievements. This includes awards such as Video of the Year, song of the summer, and more as well as performances from big names like the up-and-coming Sabrina Carpenter and throwback act Katy Perry.
Fans and supporters of rising star Chappell Roan, though, were not completely happy with this year’s VMAs. Roan, who performed her hit ‘Good Luck, Babe!” and went home with the award for Best New Artist, has expressed her discomfort with the invasive parts of celebrity culture, even saying that thanks to her rising popularity, she is simultaneously feeling more love and more unsafe than she has ever been in her life.
That’s where drag queen Plane Jane, known for appearing on ‘Boston Drag Gauntlet’ Cycle 2 and Cycle 1 of ‘Boston Drag Gauntlet All-Stars’ enters the picture. Plane Jane impersonated Chappell Roan and seemed to mock the pop star by pretending to be afraid of the cameras during a photoshoot, causing quite a stir online.

Some fans expressed their distaste for the drag queen’s actions, such as one social media user who brought up how Chappell had been stalked, doxxed, and harassed, making this joke all the more off-putting.
wow how funny it is to make fun of someone who was kissed against her will, stalked, doxxed and harassed to the point of the police showing up
