You Are Mine

In a flashback that occurs before the kidnapping, Lisa directs Shun Yu to give Shang Zhou all of his support as they finish the sales report that has been drastically altered as retaliation for spoiling his blind dates. To put up the most effort, he even tags along with Shang Zhou on his morning runs, where they ran across a possible customer who was interested in trying out the newest sportswear from their online store. Shang Zhou is amazed at how quickly Shun Yu can sales talk to them and teases that he might be hoping for a promotion as soon as now. Days went by as Shun Yu continued to follow Shang Zhou, who continued to remain late at work, causing him to become ill as a result of his body still adjusting to his new schedule and workload. Shun Yu is instructed to take a leave of absence instead by Shang Zhou, who disguises his concern by saying that he might make other employees at the company ill. Shun Yu swears he won’t spread the illness to anyone, especially Shang Zhou, and wears a clinical face mask. Shang Zhou sent Shun Yu home with his driver that afternoon rather than taking him along to the conference. Returning to the final scene of the previous episode, Shun Yu is kidnapped after the driver unintentionally leaves the door open.

Returning to the present, Shang Zhou eagerly awaits any message from Shun Yu, as he was told to do the day before. He inquires with Lisa to see if Shun Yu requested a day off after noticing that his messages to him went unread overnight. Shang Zhou phones his driver and asks whether he was able to deliver Shun Yu directly to his door after receiving confirmation from Lisa that Shun Yu hasn’t been in contact with her either. His driver answered that he couldn’t because the alley was too small for their car, and Shang Zhou cut him off before he could add that he didn’t witness Shun Yu get out of the car firsthand. He then goes on to tell the secretaries to find another way to get in touch with Shun Yu but is cut off when Lisa gets a call from a kidnapper saying he has the President of the company and wants a hundred million. Although they initially thought it was a prank, they are all frightened when they hear Shun Yu’s muffled voice in the background. Using the GPS on his work phone, Shang Zhou locates Shun Yu, and he instructs Lisa to notify the police as he goes to see him. Shang Zhou, who is reminded of the day he was kidnapped as a child, drives off despite the secretaries’ warnings.

Shun Yu pleads with Hang Si, a gullible errand boy for a kidnapping organization, to release him in the meantime. Hang Si declines, though, because he needs the money his boss promised to use for his daughter’s medical procedure. Shun Yu tries to explain that he is just a secretary and that Shang Zhou despises him and won’t likely give him a second glance, but Hang Si insists that anyone who is kidnapped must lie about who they are. He only believes Shun Yu when he sees his company ID, which bears his name and photo. When he looks at the photo that was sent to him by his boss, he realizes that Shun Yu is the man on the left, not his stated target, Shang Zhou, who is the one on the right. He sobs hysterically as he realizes his mistake and his despair over his daughter’s treatment. Shun Yu assures him, though, that he won’t call the police and that he’ll even buy him and his daughter dinner one of these days. Hang Si frees Shun Yu after the latter offers friendship and an expensive dinner for them. Immediately after the ropes are cut, Shang Zhou shows up and beats Hang Si, who is unable to defend himself. He keeps on punching the poor man until he spots Shun Yu, who tries to stop him. Shang Zhou looks for cuts or bruises but sees none except for the red stain on Shun Yu’s chest. Shun Yu clarifies that Hang Si did not harm him in any way and that the red stain on his clothes is a leftover sauce from the time when Hang Si fed him food. Shang Zhou holds Shun Yu and breathes a sigh of relief, thankful for his well-being. Shun Yu, in the meantime, wonders why Shang Zhou even looked for him with despair in his voice.

The police load Hang Si into the police vehicle as they leave. Shun Yu, who suffered a sprained ankle as a result of the kidnapping, keeps pleading with Shang Zhou to let Hang Si go, but he is adamant about sending him to jail due to his kidnapping trauma as well. After a physically and emotionally draining day, Shun Yu eventually passes out and develops a fever. Shang Zhou brings him back to his lavish home, where he lets him sleep on his bed. Shun Yu appears to have a nightmare in the middle of the night and begins tossing around the bed subconsciously. Shang Zhou pins him to the bed and reassures him as he falls asleep on top of him. After finding Shang Zhou dozing off on top of him, Shun Yu wakes him up and inquires as to his whereabouts. Shang Zhou explained to him that he had taken him to his residence after passing out in his car and that he would not permit him to leave in the middle of the night. Seeing the hesitation in Shun Yu’s face, Shang Zhou moves closer to him, daring him to go.

Writer’s Thoughts

What seems to be a nerve-wracking episode with Shun Yu’s abduction turns out to be an emotional one. Although it seems funny how Hang Si has mistaken Shun Yu for Shang Zhou due to his desperation to save his daughter’s medication, it does not change the fact that the kidnapping is illegal and traumatic to the person abducted, just like how the memories of Shang Zhou haunt him every night. That’s why it is understandable why he couldn’t just let go of Hang Si despite Shun Yu’s pleas. Meanwhile, aside from the fun moments that the kidnapping blunder brought, what takes the cake in this episode is how it displays that despite him being a terrifying boss to Shun Yu, Shang Zhou notices every single thing about him and deeply cares for him, hence the worry and desperation to find him when he goes missing. We’re excited to see how their professional relationship develops into something more in the next episodes, so stay tuned!
