Love is patient, love is kind, and love tastes delicious when prepared right! In ‘Our Dining Table’ Episode 3, Yutaka learns the importance of practice and Minoru starts to realize some things…
Yutaka is outside again eating his lunch. Although this is not out of the ordinary, the contentment sitting on his shoulders that used to be occupied by loneliness is a sight to behold.
A text from Minoru arrives with an invitation for Yutaka to join him and Tane to the zoo sometime. A small smile appears as he puts down the phone, feeling no rush to reply.
Back at Tane and Minoru’s home, Tane gives Yutaka his ticket to the zoo. He further adds that he wants octopus sausages as their lunch for that specific day. Minoru hears his brother and reprimands him for such excessive requests but Yutaka is already saying yes before the older brother can do anything about it. Beside him, Tane glows, excited for his Mr. Octopus Sausage and bento box.
Yutaka, now back at his office, suddenly remembers a somber memory from his childhood involving a bento box. His family is eating merrily in front of him while he is quiet and miserable at their side. Back in the present time, he leaves his desk to go out for lunch. As he passes by the common area, he sees his coworker, Rei, eating a bento box. Noticing his presence, she asks him if he is okay. He reluctantly asks her if she has some time. The girl, who is surprised by this, follows him to an open area to hear him out. He quietly asks if she can teach him how to make a bento for a trip with his friends. It is revealed that Yutaka has no idea how to make a bento and just said yes to make Tane and Minoru happy.
Back at their desks, Rei gives him a piece of paper with instructions on how to cook the eggs and sausages. He happily says his thanks.
When he arrives home, diligently practices frying the octopus sausages. But as expected, he struggles at his first attempts. The next day, he brings his best batch for his co-worker to try but the sausage is overcooked and the eggs look dull. Rei, thus, gave him a few tips on how to beautify his bento. She mentions adding 3 tablespoons of water to the beaten egg so it becomes fluffier.
Back at home, Yutaka has 2 pages of tips and tricks on how to perfectly make the sausage and egg roll. After more attempts, the octopus sausages finally look more alive!
Going back to the rowdy and playful Tane who is now creating a stag show with his friend animals, Minoru gets a text from Yutaka telling him that they can finally have lunch with the gorillas. Minoru smiles at the cheekily text of Yutaka and reads the text again. He is surprised however by his dad who comes in the room, teasing him who he is smiling at. Minoru hides his phone and in usual Minoru fashion, tells him to go back to his cooking
As Yutaka is perfecting his egg rolls, he is greeted with a video sent by Minoru. In the clip, the two are imitating animal sounds.
