Curry and deep heart-to-heart conversations are next on the menu of ‘Our Dining Table’.
It’s a new day in Minoru and Tane’s household. Minoru tells his younger brother that he needs to get ready quickly or they will be late. Before they get to leave their house, the brothers come back to bid their mother’s photo goodbye. The middle-aged man in the first episode, who is revealed to be the brothers’ father, appears inside the house as well and says hello to the smiling woman in the photo
Yukata is sitting in his office and spares a glance at his calendar. He remembers Tane’s request for curry in their next meet-up. Yutaka draws a red circle on the date.
At the Ramen shop where Minoru is working, his boss asks him if he did indeed pause his university education to take care of his younger brother. Minoru confirms. The boss replies to him that his dad is still around and can take care of Tane. Minoru is quick to defend his father by adding that his father is already doing his part and he can do what he wants. The boss agrees and tells him that he is still young anyway. Minoru adds that his family is important.
Tane and Minoru are walking back home when Tane asks his older brother what they will be having for dinner to which Minoru replies yakisoba. Tane sulks for a bit, lamenting that they’ve had it before but Minoru says that they have no choice as their dad only had a few pottery classes. Tane asks when he can eat Yutaka’s curry and Minoru says on Saturday. Tane says he can’t wait for the day to arrive.
After their dinner, Minoru and his dad talk about Tane’s fascination with their new friend. Minoru carries his brother to his room after a while. His dad looks at his sons and whispers to himself that Tane is not the only one excited to cook and share curry with Yutaka. Before the scene ends, an artwork made by Tane is shown. It includes a wonky but adorable drawing of his father, Minoru, him, and Yutaka.
Yutaka in the next scene is seen alone in his office, finishing up his work. Out of nowhere, Minoru appears on his phone, calling him. Yutaka accepts the call and is welcomed by Tane’s enthusiastic cheers, telling him that he is excited to cook tomorrow and that he will wake up early. Tane asks him if they can start earlier than planned. Minoru snatches the phone to apologize but Yutaka quickly replies that doesn’t mind, telling the brothers that he will be there early. He smiles at his phone, excited for what the next day will bring.
However, Tane gets a fever on their curry-making day. Yutaka rushes to Minoru’s house to bring Tane some food while he is sick. Minoru on the other hand is nonstop in his apologies especially because they asked the man to start their day earlier. Minoru reveals that Tane gets sick whenever he gets too excited about something. Tane asks if Yutaka is leaving already but Yutaka reassures him that he will stay until he gets better. He promises that they will get together again once he is okay. Minoru observes him and his care towards his younger brother. He quietly comments that he is kind. However, he didn’t realize that Yutaka heard him. Minoru elaborates that he is kind because he understands that sometimes even when dates and schedules are set, there are great chances that they can be rescheduled because of the fickle nature of children and their health. Yutaka comments that this is normal but Minoru counters this by saying that not a lot of people understand that. The two share a short moment of understanding.
