Episode 10
Uncle Wei finds Yi Ping passed out on the couch while Ever 9 lies motionless on the ground, although his almost blank gaze never leaves Yi Ping until he completely loses consciousness. The barcode at the back of his neck also electrocutes the laboratory researcher that Uncle Wei brought with him. When Yi Ping finally wakes up, he finds the house void of Ever 9, and on his side is Uncle Wei with a crestfallen face. Yi Ping immediately inquired about Ever 9’s whereabouts, but Uncle Wei answered that it was already broken and had been sent to the laboratory. Yi Ping begs Uncle Wei to return Ever 9, but the latter remains firm in his stand and exclaims his regrets for sending the robot to his nephew. In the end, Uncle Wei gives in after seeing Yi Ping emotionally distraught and brings him to see Ever 9 one last time. While the laboratory researchers prepare to reset Ever 9, Yi Ping watches miserably from the side, but Uncle Wei tells him that he can no longer change reality. He also tells them to treasure the memories he made instead and advises them to let go. However, Yi Ping is determined to have no one else but Ever 9 and even wagers with Uncle Wei that it is the first time he has ever asked for something from him. Uncle Wei responds that he can replicate Ever 9 with the same appearance and even the same chip if Yi Ping is that desperate, but the latter refuses to accept the offer and insists that a replica is different. Seeing the desperation on his nephew’s face for his love for a non-human, Uncle Wei bursts out that Yi Ping is even crazier than his parents. Their argument halts when a laboratory researcher approaches them to report that, despite inserting the reset chip, Ever 9’s memories, for some reason, couldn’t be deleted. In the end, Uncle Wei concludes that the only way is to destroy Ever 9.
Yi Ping is sent home by Uncle Wei, who also gave him Ever 9’s dog tag necklace, and finds a video recording on the screen. He sees Ever 9 talking to the camera and telling him that by the time he has seen the video, he is already broken. In the video, Ever 9 talks about being reset and knowing that after that, he will never be the same again; all lessons and emotions learned during his stay with Yi Ping will be forgotten. Knowing that one day Yi Ping will grow old and he will be broken, Ever 9 documents a video for his keepsake. In the video, Ever 9 tours him around the house and points out memories shared together, such as their first meeting and him cooking for him a bland meal. Ever 9 wishes that Yi Ping will find someone to help him out like he does in the future and thanks him for letting him experience many first-time things. Yi Ping completely breaks down as he watches the video and remembers until it ends, where Ever 9 apologizes that he will not be able to grow old with him. In the last seconds of the video, Ever 9 promises that he will only be Yi Ping’s Ever 9 and also asks him to promise that he will find someone to take care of him. Ever 9 tells Yi Ping not to grow old alone and offers his pinky to seal their promise. Under his bed, Yi Ping accidentally finds the tin can that Ever 9 holds close to his heart, where there are copies of the photos that Ever 9 took off from the fridge and burned. After crying over the photos and realizing that he at least has them to remember Ever 9, Yi Ping puts them back on the fridge, just like the former did. He also starts to take care of the plans that Ever 9 left, and just like before, he hears the silence of his home loudly.
