WATCH: Sporty Sapphic ‘Rookie’ Releases Heart-Fluttering Teaser

“Always remember, in volleyball, anything can happen.”

So goes the teaser for the newest sporty sapphic film ‘Rookie’ which released its 15-second teaser on July 3, Monday.

Fans will surely “ooh” and “ahh” at the very sporty and very squeal-worthy scenes in the teasers, complete with longing gazes and hand-holding between the two lead characters.

Aya Fernandez (Stand-in Love) and Pat Tingjuy will be starring in the queer film about volleyball. They are also joined by veteran actress Agot Isidro.

‘Rookie’ is about an awkward 6-footer teen who is forced to learn and play volleyball half-heartedly when the Catholic school she transferred to did not have a basketball team but her whole life eventually changes when she meets the team’s star player.

The film will be directed by Samantha Lee who is known for her sapphic films and series such as ‘Baka Bukas’ (2017), ‘Billie and Emma’ (2018), and the iWantTFC series ‘Sleep With Me’ (2022).

‘Rookie’ will screen at the 2023 Cinemalaya Independent Philippine Film Festival from August 4 to August 13.
