Ooh, la la! Todd Haynes has gotten fans excited as he teased about his gay period drama with Joaquin Phoenix being a little spicy.
In an interview with Variety at the Deauville American Film Festival, Haynes teased fans about his upcoming love story with the ‘Joker’ star, hinting that the film is going to be between two men set in the 30s that has “explicit sexual content.”
“One is a Native American character and one is a corrupt cop in LA. It’s set in the 30s. They have to flee L.A. ultimately and go to Mexico. But it’s a love story and with a strong sexual component,” Haynes said.
Haynes also attributed the idea to Phoenix, saying that his co-star had some thoughts, questions, and images, and then, he came to Haynes to connect them all together. Haynes said they talked on the phone and their ideas developed into a script.
