Sporty Sapphic ‘Rookie’ Unveils New Electric Teaser

Anima Studios has dropped another teaser for the sporty sapphic film ‘Rookie’ and you will not survive it!

The 34-second teaser was posted on the production company’s social media accounts with the caption “No need to study for a chemistry test (hope they pass) 😌🥰 I heard that there are only a few days left until the trailer drops 🏐😎 Mine us this coming Cinemalaya from August 4-13, 2023! #RookieFilm #Cinemalaya2023”

The video shows the two leads, Aya Fernandez and Pat Tingjuy as they go on a screen test for the film as mrld’s “Ikaw Pa Rin” plays in the background. And boy, oh, boy, do they have an electric chemistry that oozes from the screen!

‘Rookie’ follows the story of Ace, an awkward 6-footer teen who is forced to learn and play volleyball half-heartedly when the Catholic school she transferred to did not have a basketball team but her whole life eventually changes when she meets the team’s star player.

‘Rookie’ is directed by Samantha Lee and written by Natts Jadaone. The sporty sapphic film will also have Filipino star volleyball players Alyssa Valdez, Tots Carlos, and Ara Galang making cameo appearances in the film. Up-and-coming superstar player Jelai Gajero is also set to join the movie although they have yet to appear in any of the teasers.

Lee is known for her sapphic films such as ‘Baka Bukas’ (2017), ‘Billie and Emma’ (2018), and the iWantTFC series ‘Sleep With Me’ (2022).

‘Rookie’ will screen at the 2023 Cinemalaya Independent Philippine Film Festival from August 4 to August 13.
