NewFest has announced its opening, closing, and New York Centerpiece selections for its 35th anniversary edition.
NewFest, the leading queer Film and Media organization presenting the New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival annually, will open with the biopic ‘Rustin’ starring Colman Domingo. It is directed by the DGA award and five-time Tony winner George C. Wolfe.
It will close with Andrew Haigh’s ghostly gay romance ‘All of Us Strangers’ starring Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell.
The festival’s executive director David Hatkoff and director of programming Nick McCarthy have also announced that this year’s New York Centerpiece screening will be the world premiere of the Billy Porter-narrated documentary ‘Queen of New York’ from Emmy-nominated director Emma Fidel.
‘Rustin’ follows Bayard Rustin’s life story which takes place during the civil rights movement when Rustin organized the 1963 March on Washington, all while wrestling with the open secret of his sexuality and the public scrutiny he dealt with.
