‘All Of Us Strangers’ Star Claire Foy Shares Powerful Message For LGBTQIA+ Parents

‘All of Us Strangers’ star Clair Foy has a message for parents of LGBTQIA children.

In an interview with PinkNews, Foy imparted a powerful message dedicated to the parents of queer kids.

“A lot of the time, as a parent myself, I do understand how difficult it is to not see that your child is basically a criticism [of] you as a human being, and understanding you don’t own your kids and your kids will be whoever they’re going to be,” Foy said in the interview.

Foy played the role of the mother of Adam (played by Andrew Scott). Adam is a gay screenwriter who has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbor Harry (played by Mescal) that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life.

The 39-year-old actress believes that her character’s opinion of homosexuality comes from a place of “fear of what you don’t understand and fear of somehow that you are not right.”

Foy also persuaded those unaccepting of their kids to look inward because she believes that criticisms and judgments of others have to be repeated back to one’s self because they are the things one is most afraid of.

She also hopes that ‘All of Us Strangers’ will teach people that life is too short for people to be confused by one another so we should listen and understand.

As for her character, Foy admitted she was initially concerned about her portrayal of a role that has good intentions but is discriminatory. Ultimately, she and the production decided that not to soften the reality of the situation.

The actor explained that her character is stuck at a time when homophobia is rampant so she had important conversations with director Andrew Haigh and co-star Scott to make sure that they are being truthful to the reality of gay men during the time.

‘All Of Us Strangers’ premiered on December 22 and is currently showing in cinemas in selected countries worldwide.
