OurSkyy 2 x Never Let Me Go Episode 1: Backwards in Time

Last April 19 and 20, the anthology series OurSkyy 2 started airing with its first two episodes centering on Pond Naravit Lertratkosum as Palm and Phuwin Tangsakyuen as Nuengdiao from their series Never Let Me Go.

Across the two episodes, the couple finds themselves sent back in time to their past lives. Here’s a recap of how it all went down.

The story picks up with Nueng and Palm in a long-distance relationship after Nueng decided to study abroad at the end of Never Let Me Go. Here, we see Nuengdiao complaining about how Palm barely has time for him now since he hasn’t been answering Nueng’s calls and texts. Nueng then gives Palm a reminder to pick him up at the airport since he’s coming home to Thailand.

Later, at the airport, Palm picks Nueng up at the airport, enthusiastically holding up a sign to welcome him back. Nueng approaches him but seems unresponsive to the flirty remarks Palm throws at him, instead choosing to complain again about Palm ignoring his calls. Palm promises to make it up to him by taking him to a local restaurant since Nueng has missed the local cuisine during his time abroad. It is here that it was revealed that the restaurant they were eating at was run by none other than Palm and Tam, a friend of his mother from the island she used to run her inn from. Palm remarked that he was busy because he was doing everything he can so he can work in Bangkok to be able to be with Nueng.

After a while, the two encounter a man who claimed to know about their future. He told them that they were lovers in their past lives who were always fated to end up apart. To break the curse, they would have to go back to where they made their love vow. Nueng was about to make a comment but was interrupted by the sudden commotion caused by a few men harassing an older lady for her unpaid debts. Palm rushed in to help, which led to the couple being chased by the men, one of whom had a machete in hand. They were eventually cornered and as the machete slashed at Nueng’s sun bracelet, the two suddenly found themselves in completely different places and times, in one of the past lives the strange man from earlier told them about.

Palm found himself to be a lord, with one of his servants, Petch, greatly resembling Phum, one of his classmates from high school. Nueng, on the other hand, was a poor man who was given to Palm as a servant due to his father being unable to pay his debt. Here, we see a reversal in roles, with Palm now being the wealthy one and Nueng having to work for him, unlike their original set-up of Nueng being the son of wealthy business owners and Palm working as his bodyguard. The two try their best to play the roles to avoid suspicion while finding a way back home. Their main lead was the sun bracelet, though when Nueng woke up in this new time, he could not find it.

In their attempts to play the roles they found themselves in, it is shown how, despite growing up in a life of luxury, Nueng did not think so highly of himself that he was unwilling to do the tasks assigned to him as a servant. On the flip side, while it was implied that the original lord, before Palm took over his body, thought of himself as better than those who served him, Palm, who lived a simpler life, treated them all with more respect.

The couple starts to arouse suspicion from others, especially from Petch, as Palm’s natural flirtiness shows itself. On top of this, Nueng speaking to a foreigner in English at the market further raises eyebrows. This culminates in the couple being caught by Petch kissing under the big tree while they were trying to find Nueng’s bracelet. The couple also discussed the challenges they would face if they were unable to return to their time, particularly how same-sex couples were highly discriminated against back then, even more so than today.

On their way back from the tree, the couple get into an argument when Nueng reveals that he was not planning to move back to Bangkok yet and would instead continue pursuing further studies abroad. This angered Palm, who had just finished setting up a restaurant in the city to be close to Nueng. Nueng reminded him that he should have planned his life for himself rather than for Nueng, a callback to a conversation they had in Never Let Me Go where Palm was drinking in the bathtub of their hotel room while mourning his mother where Nueng expressed a similar sentiment. This further developed into an argument about the importance of their relationship and their futures. The two tried getting some space after the fight, but this was cut short when Palm found the servants torturing Nueng and accusing him of casting a love spell on Palm. After Palm saved him, the two took the opportunity to apologize to each other and reconcile. This scene showed how the two have grown since the events of the original series where they would instead leave each other letters before running away.

The episode ends here, but the story continues in episode 2. Will Palm and Nueng make it back to modern times? And how will their relationship progress? You’ll have to check out the next episode to find out!
