The ensemble BL series ‘We Are’ is here! With 2 episodes currently out and a third coming very soon, you may be wondering if it is worth it to start keeping up with the series. That’s what we’re here for, so keep reading to see if this series fits your taste!
‘We Are’ centers around two primary couples, consisting of Pond Naravit and Phuwin Tangsakyuen as Phum and Peem as well as Winny Thanawin and Satang Kittiphop as Q and Toey. There are also side couples with Aou Thanaboon and Boom Tharatorn as Tan and Fang and Marc Natarit and Poon Mitpakdee as Chain and Pun.
That leads into the first strong point of the series, which is the way it more than takes advantage of this large cast through the friendship dynamics. This is especially true of the friend group consisting of Peem, Tan, Q, Chain, and Pun. These characters gain extra context through the way their friend group interacts and feel more alive as a result. They have a shared history prior to the series and the cast excellently portrayed the bonds between them. This is especially evident in the close friendship between Pheem and Q, who have strong mutual respect for each other as artists, but also tease each other in good fun when the moment calls for it.
This same strength, however, could lead to pitfalls down the line if the director and screenwriters don’t exercise caution. Such a large cast could easily lead to some characters getting overshadowed. It’s too early to tell for sure how ‘We Are’ will share the spotlight among all its cast members, though with two lead couples and two supporting couples, the risk does exist. If pulled off well, though, this series could cement itself as an achievement in GMMTV’s lineup of series.
