3 Ways ‘My Love Mix-Up TH’ Puts A Spin On Familiar Storylines!

My Love Mix-Up TH

‘My Love Mix-Up TH’ is staying true to its name by mixing things up with every new episode! Anyone who thinks the Thai adaptation isn’t worth watching since it just tells the same story as the Japanese adaptation couldn’t be more wrong! Here’s a list of three ways the Thai adaptation has kept things fresh for viewers already familiar with the other live-action adaptation!

Recharacterization Of The Sports Love Rival

Instead of the rival school’s pretty team assistant, Matsuuchi Kokomi, the Thai adaptation gave us Claire, a childhood friend of Kongthap and his teammate Khao-pan. While the storyline starts out similarly with Atom seeing her as a rival for Kongthap’s affections, the twist at the end of the episode is completely different! While Matsuuchi pursued Ida in an attempt to get over their coach, who rejected her advances, Claire actually had her eyes on Khao-pan and was trying to get Kongthap to help her win him over. Not only is this a much more age-appropriate crush compared to Matsuuchi’s attempt at winning over a teacher, but it also gives Claire a more personal connection to Kongthap as his old friend, fleshing out their dynamic further. Who knows, maybe Claire will even return in a future episode to continue trying to win Khao-pan’s heart!

School Camp: From Teamwork to Courage

Aside from the camp taking place after the sports arc rather than before it like in the Japanese adaptation, the Thai adaptation made another interesting change! While the Japanese version emphasized the importance of teamwork to survive in the wilderness with how the students banded together to cook for everyone instead of only the ones who were able to gather ingredients in the wild, the Thai version placed an emphasis on Atom and Mudmee overcoming their fears. This led to hilariously unforgettable scenes like the four main characters dressing up as ghosts to scare their classmates. There was even a fun appearance from Sergeant Yod from ‘A Tale Of A Thousand Stars’!Since they both chose to focus on different things, neither version is necessarily better in this regard, though the emphasis on bravery does help lead into Atom and Mudmee building up the courage to confess their feelings to Kongthap and Half!

Two Relationships Blossoming In Parallel

You may remember how the Japanese adaptation had Ida and Aoki’s first meal together on the rooftop run alongside the iconic and chaotic storyline of Hashimoto planning to get a pompadour to deal with her heartbrokenness. This let them progress Hashimoto and Aida’s storyline while also showing the way Ida supports Aoki when he gets stressed out and how Ida likes Aoki best when he’s helping others. The Thai adaptation chose to progress the two couples somewhat separately, lessening Atom and Kongthap’s involvement and instead allowing them to shine on their own. While Atom did still berate Half for forgetting how he and Mudmee first met, the episode had Half trying to get back on Mudmee’s good side mostly without Atom’s help, though Atom did still show up in a funny flashback where he ate the cupcake Mudmee gave to Half. Thanks to this change, Atom and Kongthap were able to have their own storyline about their first date, which included a fun reference to ‘My School President’ and the wish-making activity with the ribbons, which led to the incredibly romantic reveal that both Atom and Kongthap chose to get pink ribbons, which are for love-related wishes!
