The President and the Secretary Face Another Obstacle in ‘You Are Mine’ Spin Off

After returning to the company, Shang Zhou and Shun Yu lead happy lives, not only until their family and shareholders begin to pressure them. Will they be able to stay by each other’s sides as they have promised, or will the difference between their worlds finally win over? Let’s find out in this BLTai recap of the ‘You Are Mine‘ spin-off!

Shang Zhou faces the challenge of cooking multiple meals inside a busy breakfast cafe while Shun Yu’s mother, Mrs. Yao, watches from the side. On the other hand, Shun Yu takes on the job of being the cafe’s cashier. Observing Shang Zhou struggling with multitasking, Mrs. Yao laments that it will be lunchtime when he finishes cooking at his current pace. Shun Yu gets in between the two and tells Shang Zhou that he can help him clean the tables instead. After Shang Zhou apologizes, the couple begins to clean the table. Mrs. Yao still manages to watch over them meticulously and is trying to eavesdrop on them. Shun Yu reassures Shang Zhou that he is already a big help, as he also carries the heavy stuff for the cafe because his father’s waist hurts. Just then, a customer compliments Shang Zhou’s good looks and asks how Mrs. Yao finds a handsome staff member, but the latter answers that he is just her son’s friend.

Later that afternoon, Shang Zhou faces Mrs. Yao and puts on his serious face, although he couldn’t help shaking due to being nervous. He offers her the coffee, claiming to have made it himself, but as soon as he takes a sip, Mrs. Yao immediately asserts that her son was the one who made it. Mrs. Yao intimidates Shang Zhoul, telling him that she knows he is the one who tricked her son into the bed. Shun Yu couldn’t help but chuckle, making his mother glared at him, which immediately shut him up. Mrs. Yao continues that while Shang Zhou sponsored the renovation of the breakfast cafe, it didn’t give him the means to decide on his own, and she asked him instead what Shun Yu could get by being with him. In the end, she says that, just as she expected, the two are completely from a different world. She also states that she only backed Shang Zhou’s mother’s efforts to help them return to the company at that time because the latter was constantly talking to her. Meanwhile, Shang Zhou presents all of his assets to Mrs. Yao, as listed on his mobile phone, and says that everything that is his is also Shun Yu’s. While Mrs. Yao is impressed by Shang Zhou’s wealth, she hides it with a poker face and tells him that she only wants her son to have someone who can proudly tell about their relationship in public, and if he can’t give, then she would rather have them break up. She instructs her son to water the plants, and she tells Shang Zhou to follow her so they can talk privately. Shun Yu initially hesitates, but his mother assures her that she will not bite Shang Zhou. As Shun Yu steps outside, Mrs. Yao informs Shang Zhou that she understands the challenges the two men face in maintaining their relationship, while also acknowledging her son’s good treatment. However, what pains Mrs. Yao is the thought that her son has to make excuses to protect Shang Zhou’s image from the public and the company. Mrs. Yao aspires for her son to confidently assert the support of those around him for his relationship with Shang Zhou, knowing that her son is worth it. She pats Shang Zhou’s shoulder and trusts that he knows what to do next. Shang Zhou promises that he hears what she wants to say before he goes outside and hugs Shun Yu. He then tells Shun Yu not to worry, saying that he will never let him down before he goes to his car. He makes a few calls and instructs the person on the other line to send him the venue details and ensure that the news does not spread. He watches Shun Yu watering the plants fondly before he gets inside his car, thinking that one day they will be able to hold hands and proudly show the world their relationship.

The next day, Shang Zhou anxiously awaits Shun Yu in a rented private venue for a romantic photoshoot, dressed in an impeccable suit. Upon Shun Yu’s arrival, wearing an identical suit, Shang Zhou finds himself mesmerized and hugs him, then kisses him passionately immediately, much to the former’s surprise. Just then, a hired photographer takes a picture of them. Shun Yu inquires about their wedding-appropriate attire, to which Shang Zhou responds that the company’s bridal shoot models abruptly canceled, prompting them to step in as replacements. Shun Yu immediately believes Shang Zhou’s words, as he remembers that the latter was also in a hurry the day before. The two follow the photographer’s instructions and act as lovingly as they usually do. While taking a break from the shoot, they begin to talk about weddings, although Shun Yu hesitantly says that he knows that if they get married and the media finds out, the company shareholders might flip and cause problems for Shang Zhou. Hence, Shun Yu believes that there really isn’t a need for marriage. Shang Zhou apologizes to Shun Yu that he has suffered these kinds of thoughts and realizes that Mrs. Yao’s concern about their relationship being in public and supported by the company is correct.

Later that evening, with just the two of them left in the rented private venue, Shang Zhou asks Shun Yu to wait for him before he turns on the lights in a makeshift church. Shun Yu excitedly takes photos of the beautiful facade, but Shang Zhou stands nervously in front of him and says that he never thought he could do something as romantic as this. He emotionally thanks Shun Yu for showing up in his life and for all the small things that never went unnoticed. Shang Zhou slowly gets on his knees and professes his love; he then promises to stay by Shun Yu’s side and asks him to get married as he shows the wedding rings he got. Shun Yu kisses Shang Zhou and immediately says yes, just as fireworks start to light around them. From the side, Vice President Lee, who is Shang Zhou’s accomplice, watches with the newly hired secretary in the company assigned to take photos as well. The new secretary believes that Shun Yu is in a relationship with Vice President Lee, due to the gossip made by the secretaries. The secretary comforts Vice President Lee and shares that people in the company have also made stories about him being married when he was very single. The two sigh heavily at the realization that the girls in the company are all gossipmongers. They return their gaze to the newly engaged couple and find them bickering after Shun Yu learns that Mrs. Yao’s words helped Shang Zhou gain the courage to propose. To Shang Zhou’s surprise, Shun Yu tells him that all of Mrs. Yao’s suggestions on what she believes is worthy of her son’s wedding proposal such as photoshoots were her wishes when she was young. Shun Yu shyly says that he only wants an intimate wedding, but he also realizes that their wedding will probably backfire on Shang Zhou’s image, but the latter assures him that he will handle it just fine before claiming his lips once again.

Meanwhile, the new secretary clutches Vice President Lee’s arm as they watch the engaged couple make out. Vice President Lee asks him if he is open to falling in love with a man, to which the new secretary nods shyly.

Writer’s Thoughts:

We can’t believe our cherished President and Secretary will be leaving us for good in this ‘You Are Mine’ spin-off! Like the show, the two never fail to make our hearts skip a beat. First, with their gorgeous appearance—Shang Zhou’s hair, in particular, made him seem even more charming to us—and second, with the fact that Shun Yu is still the innocent person he always was. We also appreciate Mrs. Yao’s exposure to make sure the man standing by her son is deserving and recognizes Shun Yu’s value. The recently hired male secretary, who is implied to be Vice President Lee’s love team, is a breath of fresh air also, even though we kind of miss the boisterous group of female secretaries. All things considered, this spin-off is the ideal coda to the endearing and lighthearted office romance that we loved. The spin-offs of the other shows are coming out next, so be sure to check back every Friday on GagaOOLala and every week for our recaps here on BLTai. We hope to see you on the next one!
