Will There Be A True ‘Happy Merry Ending’ in Episodes 7 & 8?

Happy Merry Ending left us with a huge cliffhanger in the last episode, with Jae Hyun protecting Seung Jun against his toxic ex, Joo Won. Will they have a “happy merry ending” for our two protagonists? Let’s find out in the last two episodes of the series.

Happy Merry Ending

Episode 7: One Year Later

The scuffle continues, and as Jae Hyun was about to retaliate against Joo Won’s punch, Seung Jun stops him. Jae Hyun tries to calm down and told Joo Won that he does not know what happened in their past, but he will never let Seung Jun go. He also warns him to never appear in front of Seung Jun again because he will make him regret it. Jae Hyun, then, grabbed Seung Jun’s hand and left the scene as Joo Won pathetically cries out while people recorded the outburst through their phones.

Jae Hyun walks Seung Jun home, and instead of thanking him, Seung Jun asks Jae Hyun to leave. The situation may have taken a toll on him, and as Jae Hyun respected his decision, Seung Jun thinks that he hated that he saw this side of him, more than seeing his ex.

It has been a year ever since they broke up, and Seung Jun seemed to have changed. He made an effort to go after his career goals and is now a singer acknowledged by the public. As Seung Jun was recording his new song, Chan Woo came to the recording studio and there we learn that they are working in the same company. Joo Won, meanwhile, seemed to have met his downfall when it was revealed that he “messed with kids”. Seung Jun’s manager asked him to have dinner together, but he said that he has plans. His “plan” is to meet up with his best friend, Ho Yeon, in the surfing area where he works.

There, the two talk, and Seung Jun thanks Ho Yeon. It seemed that Ho Yeon wanted to confess to Seung Jun but held back, instead, he told him to buy him meat next time as a form of gratitude. Seung Jun thought out loud about wondering how “that person” is. Ho Yeon tells his best friend to go after “that person” before it’s too late. And listening to his advice, Seung Jun goes to Jae Hyun’s old coffee place, but no matter how long he waited, he didn’t come. Despite that, Seung Jun says that he worked so hard to live well in the past year, especially when it came to singing because he wanted to sing confidently in front of him. And so, continuing this goal, he holds an event in celebration of his new song. The emcee points out that the new song was about Seung Jun’s past experiences, and he confirmed that it was, saying that there was a person who helped him during a difficult time when he was suffering from a severe panic attack. Seung Jun, then, sings.

Episode 8: Did You Wait Long?

A glimpse of what Jae Hyun has been up to opens the episode, in which he and his employees have become too busy in their respective lives that Jae Hyun decided to close his cafe. But through all of these changes, he never forgot Seung Jun. He still plays piano at various wedding events, and he sees his colleagues at the events watching Seung Jun’s live stream where he talks about Jae Hyun, which made him run to the place where Seung Jun was holding his event. The guards prevented him from entering the venue, but Ho Yeon tells the guards that Jae Hyun is someone they know, and he gets to go in and watch Seung Jun perform his new song which was about him. Seung Jun takes off his sunglasses that he used because he was anxious because he saw Jae Hyun, easing his anxiety. They hold each other’s gazes. After the event, Jae Hyun leaves because Seung Jun became preoccupied with the work. Seung Jun looked for Jae Hyun but he was nowhere to be seen. He saw Ho Yeon and asked him if he has seen Jae Hyun, and Ho Yeon said he saw him leave first, thinking they already talked. Seung Jun runs off to meet Jae Hyun at his old coffee shop, but he still wasn’t there. He finally gave Jae Hyun a call, and it turns out that Jae Hyun was waiting at Seung Jun’s old house (but he never actually told him that…), saying that he was just walking around. They agreed to meet at a bridge, the opening of the first episode.

There, they finally meet.

Jae Hyun asks if he waited for a long time, and before Seung Jun could even answer, they hug. Jae Hyun said he can finally breathe again. The two both go on a walk and clear up misunderstandings, with Seung Jun saying that he did not want him to leave and that Joo Won might hurt him, that was why he asked to break up. Jae Hyun stops in his tracks and tells Seung Jun firmly that he never wants to break up with him again. They hold hands and walk together happily.

The two have finally gotten together and seem to start living together, too. They are both happy and have woven into each other’s lives, free from the toxicity of their past. We see a glimpse of their simple and domestic lives as a couple. And Jae Hyun being his romantic self, prepares a special singing performance for his boyfriend. The two kiss, and have the happy merry ending that they deserve.

What we think

Seung Jun finally frees himself from the past and have now lived a good life with the true love of his life, Jae Hyun. He no longer depends on a man for happiness, but he did his best to become a better person so that he can have the relationship he deserves. It was truly a happy ending. The only thing that could have made it better is if we saw Joo Won in jail.
