Happiness is Within Reach in ‘Happy Merry Ending’ Episodes 5 & 6

Happy Merry Ending

With ‘Happy Merry Ending‘ teasing us last week with a possible love triangle between Seung Jun, Jae Hyun, and Ho Yeon, we will see if Seung Jun is actually ready to open his heart up again. Here is a recap of episodes 5 and 6 of ‘Happy Merry Ending’.

Happy Merry Ending

Episode 5: Romance & Tranquility

After their little get-together, during which Jae Hyun had a vocal lesson with Seung Jun, they drank just outside Seung Jun’s house. As they were joking around, Ho Yeon came home and saw the two of them being close. Seung Jun introduced the two together, saying that Ho Yeon is a person who lives just above his house, and Jae Hyun is a person who is taking vocal lessons with him. Jae Hyun eventually left since it was already late. Seung Jun asked Ho Yeon if he’d like to eat together, but Ho Yeon, who was obviously jealous that someone else was making Seung Jun smile and laugh, said he already ate (he hasn’t yet).

The time came again for Jae Hyun and Seung Jun to perform a celebratory wedding song. To make Seung Jun less nervous, Jae Hyun wore sunglasses as well while he was playing the piano. After their wedding performance, Jae Hyun told Seung Jun he’ll take him home. Although they were together, Seung Jun’s head was full of concerns that his ex, Joo Won, might contact him again (and we see that his ex was actually stalking him). Seeing that Seung Jun was concerned, Jae Hyun secretly drove them to the beach to get a breath of fresh air. He also temporarily took Jae Hyun’s phone so he does not have to worry about anyone calling. They take a walk on the beach, watch the sunrise, talk, and eventually, after Jae Hyun’s sweet confession, they shared a romantic kiss.

While on the way home, Seung Jun’s ex kept calling him again, but this time, he feels a lot calmer. Jae Hyun takes his hand and smiles. In the following days, the two go on a date, sealing their relationship. We see them doing normal things that couples do, and Seung Jun feels like he’s a lot happier than he was.

But of course, not every day is perfect. Seung Jun has a class with Chan Woo, the idol singer. In an attempt to cut all ties with his ex, Seung Jun asks Chan Woo, an idol member of his ex’s company, to find another teacher instead since he is planning to take some time off from the vocal academy. But as they were walking outside, Joo Won came up to both of them. He asked Chan Woo to wait in the car as they talk. Seung Jun coldly asked him what he wants, and brushes him off. He was about to leave, but Joo Won says he has a proposal for him.

Episode 6: A Pause in Happiness

Joo Won reveals his proposal to Seung Jun, which is to be his company’s in-house composer. Seung Jun looks at him in disbelief and coldly told him that he does not want anything to do with him. Joo Won continues to aggravate him, leaving Seung Jun distraught and once again triggered. He goes home and tells his friend Ho Yeon about what happened and cries.

Meanwhile, Jae Hyun, completely oblivious to what happened to his new boyfriend, tried to contact Seung Jun… to no avail. He tries to look for Seung Jun at the wedding place, but he finds out that he quit his wedding singing job. Jae Hyun becomes increasingly concerned for him as Seung Jun goes into a mental spiral, isolating himself from everything and everyone. One day, however, Seung Jun receives a phone call from Chan Woo saying he was going to be let go from his company, but we find out that he was just being blackmailed by Joo Won, Seung Jun’s vile ex and his company’s CEO.

So Seung Jun goes to Joo Won’s company to ask him to not fire Chan Woo. Joo Won, being the awful human being he was, started gaslighting Seung Jun and asking him to start over with their relationship. Seung Jun turns him down immediately and asked him to not involve Chan Woo in his manipulating tactics. He hurried up and left his pathetic ex.

Through all of these, Jae Hyun was still longing for his boyfriend who kind of ghosted him. He ended up at Seung Jun’s house, but when he realized that he wouldn’t be coming home, he eventually walked away. But upon walking back to his home, Jae Hyun saw Seung Jun being manhandled by Joo Won. Jae Hyun immediately came to his boyfriend’s defense and told him to leave him alone. He was about to give him a much-deserved punch, but Seung Jun told him not to do it, which he immediately did.

What we think

We don’t normally advocate for violence, but if there was a single man in the world who deserved it, it was definitely the jerk of an ex, Joo Won. Even after traumatizing Seung Jun, grooming, and manipulating him, it seems he has not grown out of his old bad habits. Because of Seung Jun’s condition, no one can really blame how he deals with situations, but it’s undeniable how much strength he had to pull just to tell his ex to leave Chan Woo alone and not victimize him the way he did to him. Seung Jun deserves all the love in the world, and that means he deserves Jae Hyun.

But we can only know if they will have their own happy ending in the last two episodes, that will air next week!
