Episode 5: Chocolate
In a cafe, Han Joon tutors a student who receives a phone call from a friend, triggering Han Joon’s recollection of his confession to Yoo Jae. Later, as he finishes another part-time job, he looks at the matching pair of shoes he shares with Yoo Jae. Thinking back to their argument, Han Joon remembers how Yoo Jae became angry when he expressed his belief that their friendship would be ruined if they didn’t start dating. At home, Han Joon gazes at the untouched chocolate he had saved from their recent argument. Yoo Jae’s words about contacting him once he has sorted out his feelings echo in his mind.
The following day at college, Han Joon catches sight of Yoo Jae as he rides his bike. Lost in his thoughts, Han Joon accidentally bumps into a senior who claims he’s a member of the boxing club —explaining the bruise on his eye. The senior insists on being called hyung and extends an invitation to the opening party happening later that day, coincidentally the same invitation Han Joon was looking at last night. At the opening party, Han Joon and Yoo Jae make eye contact. Yoo Jae’s mind drifts back to their graduation day when he retrieved Han Joon’s certificate on his behalf since Han Joon had mysteriously vanished without informing anyone. As Yoo Jae sings on stage, Han Joon notices the girl sitting next to him in tears. She confesses that she misses her mom. This leads them to have a heartfelt conversation about their longing for their family and friends. The girl expresses her envy towards Han Joon for having Yoo Jae by his side as a close friend throughout their college journey. Han Joon remains silent upon hearing the girl’s words and drinks soju, consuming it until he becomes completely intoxicated. Meanwhile, Yoo Jae continues singing on stage, keeping his focus on the drunk Han Joon.
In the next scene, we find Han Joon lying in bed, still drunk, as he mumbles to his mom about drinking alcohol for the first time. Yoo Jae sits on the edge of the bed and asks him if he had a good time. Han Joon responds absentmindedly, but his surprise grows when he realizes that Yoo Jae is actually there. Yoo Jae scolds him gently and advises him to drink in moderation from now on. He then asks for Han Joon’s class schedule and reminds him of their agreement to do everything together in college. Han Joon attempts to speak, but Yoo Jae requests that he goes first. Yoo Jae reflects on the fact that if Han Joon truly had feelings for him, it wasn’t fair for him to disappear overnight. Han Joon promptly apologizes, and Yoo Jae responds by asking if they can be friends again if he is truly sorry. Han Joon eagerly agrees, and they start catching up on each other’s lives. Han Joon shares that he has been doing part-time jobs and proudly shows off the new shirt he just bought. Yoo Jae compliments him on his hard work but suggests the sneakers he’s wearing don’t go well with the outfit so they make plans to go shopping for new shoes the next day. As they prepare to part ways, Yoo Jae notices the discarded chocolate that Han Joon has been holding onto. Han Joon explains that he was planning to throw it away, and Yoo Jae offers to dispose of it for him.
