Oh No! ‘Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence’ Gets Cancelled

Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence

We hate to be the bearer of this extremely devastating news.

For almost an entire decade, fans have been patiently waiting for the prequel movie of the 2016 smash hit sports anime ‘Yuri!!! on Ice’.

However, it seems like fans will be heartbroken to know that the production of the film ‘Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence’ has been officially canceled.

On April 19, Friday, the anime’s official X account posted a notice announcing the cancellation of the film much to the fans’ dismay and distress.

“Thank you very much for always supporting ‘Yuri!!! on Ice’.

Regarding the postponed release of ‘Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence’, we have come to the decision to unfortunately cancel its production.

We deeply apologize for not being able to meet the expectations of all those who have been waiting and have continued to support us throughout these years.

The production committee and staff have been in constant discussions to create and to deliver the movie, but due to various circumstances, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop the production.

We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been anticipating its release and thank you once again for your continued support.”

The film was initially announced in April 2017 at the Yuri!!! on Stage exhibition event. A year later, the title was released to the public. It was initially scheduled to premiere in 2019 but was subsequently pushed back.

The first season of ‘Yuri!!! on Ice’ was lauded for its subtle and different representation of homosexual romance between two male figure skaters as well as its accurate representation of anxiety.

‘Yuri!!! on Ice’ has amassed many queer fans and while it seems like there are no plans to revive the film, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for other follow-up content for our favorite lovers, Victuuri, and hopefully, MAPPA will finally take pity on the fans’ distressed cries across the globe!
