Episode 6: Losing Happiness

Kazuma watches as Ren leaves for his weekend meeting, kissing him on the way out and telling him to take care along the way. After Ren’s meeting, however, he meets Kazuma’s mother as he was about to go home. The two decide to talk in a coffee shop, with Kazuma’s mother being completely intimidating towards Ren. She asks for a business card, which Ren readily gives. She notices that Ren changed his last name from the last time and found out that he is working in the same company as Kazuma. Ren explains that they only entered the company by complete chance. Kazuma’s mother asked if they have met each other privately, and Ren denies that they have met each other. However, Ren realizes that the shirt he is wearing was actually designed by Kazuma’s mother, completely revealing that he lied about seeing Kazuma in private. Kazuma’s mother looked at Ren in what can only be described as disgust and said that the shirt he is wearing doesn’t suit him, before leaving him alone at the coffee shop.

Ren’s whole world turned upside down. He broke down crying, saying sorry to Kazuma for liking him. Kazuma sent him a text message saying he is waiting at home… not knowing what Ren just experienced. Back at Kazuma’s house, he noticed that it started raining, and out of concern that Ren didn’t bring an umbrella, he got his jacket and an umbrella to wait for Ren. However, Ren didn’t go home, nor did he tell Kazuma where he went. It was raining, just like the last time they separated 10 years ago.

Kazuma tried to reach Ren, but he was not answering his calls. He goes back home in hopes of seeing Ren there, but he was still nowhere to be found. Kazuma sits and realizes Ren is gone.

The next day, Ren quit the company without a word. Kazuma went about his usual way, albeit a bit lifeless with his work. While looking through computer files, he saw a locked folder, wondering what it was. However, a colleague said that it was only Chief Saneda who can access that file because it contains personal information, but he was currently on paid leave vacation the same day that Ren also left.

Meanwhile, the whole office is now talking about Ren’s situation with the company. Kazuma sighs and goes to the same place where the two of them usually eat lunch. Kazuma sits down and thinks of Ren, whom he misses the most. He reminisces about the times that they were together, as he holds back his tears. As he was thinking of Ren, Ayumi sends him a message saying she has something she wants to discuss with him. It was then that she explains that Ren’s disappearance and Chief Saneda’s leave are connected. Ayumi shares that Ren has been sending her some messages about some of the things he wishes her to relay to her team. Kazuma breathes a sigh of relief, now knowing that Ren is safe. Ayumi said she blames herself for putting Ren in this situation, but Kazuma assures her that she definitely chose the best person to help her because Ren is someone who will help her until the end. As they end their conversation, Kazuma asks if Ayumi knows where Ren is, but unfortunately, she doesn’t. While fixing her stuff, however, Kazuma saw color-proof material which he knows is usually approved by Ren’s friend.

Kazuma goes home to a dark and empty apartment. He sits at the dining table where he and Ren used to eat together. He moves to the living room where he and Ren used to watch movies and cuddle on the sofa. He remembered when he helped a sleepy Ren dry his hair after showering, where he embraced him and notices his armband. Kazuma asks about it and what it symbolizes, especially because it seemed special to Ren who always wears it even during sleep. Ren sleepily says that it’s nothing special and that it is for granting a wish, and he mumbles that it doesn’t matter anymore since his wish was granted. Kazuma didn’t pry him on and tells him to tell him his wish next time. He leads Ren to the bedroom to sleep.

Meanwhile, Sanada is off doing illegal criminal things again, covering sexual harassment issues and more. He receives a phone call about how it would be hard to cover for his crimes again, of which Sanada also said he did the same to this person. Sanada asks if the one who reported Sanada was Ren, and it seemed like he was also looking for him.

Writer’s thoughts:

Ren, the kind soul that he is, definitely reported Sanada (as he should!). But it was also at the expense of his own safety and his career. Although what Ren did was commendable, we can only wish that he can also find his own happiness and not let all the burden fall upon just him. Kazuma is suffering from missing the love of his life, and it seemed it was enough for him to know that Ren was safe and sound. However, will he continue to look for Ren, or will he just wait for him to return? Let’s find out in the next episode this coming Friday!
