Finding Comfort With ‘My Personal Weatherman’ in Episode 5

Mizuki already has two things confirmed: first, there is no cause to feel envious of Man-San, who turns out to be his biggest fan, and second, Yoh adores him while acting distant and uninterested in him, as the latter can be easily envious of the former. Meanwhile, Yoh is experiencing a crisis with his feelings as well as his professional career as a manga artist. Find out what happens next in ‘My Personal Weatherman‘, Episode 5.

Episode 5

Yoh receives word from his publishing editor that his manga will no longer be published because of poor sales, which will leave him jobless. His editor believes that all of his male characters are excessively intelligent, and attractive, and have the Knight in Shining Armor Syndrome, which is more appropriate for shoujo mangas than erotica ones. He couldn’t help but think that it was Mizuki’s fault, as he couldn’t stop himself from drawing characters in his likeness. He goes home in low spirits and finds himself unable to do any of his household chores.

Mizuki arrives home to discover Yoh motionless in the laundry room, the washing machine still running in the background. He catches Yoh’s upset expression just as he is ready to complain that Yoh hasn’t been returning his calls. He leads him to the living room and embraces him from behind. Yoh says nothing as Mizuki makes an effort to get his attention. He won’t drink the water from the glass, so Mizuki decides to take a drink and give it to him by kissing him. After successfully making him drink water, Mizuki starts to prepare dinner for the both of them, seeing that Yoh will not do it. He also feeds him, making Yoh surprised that the food is actually delicious, as Mizuki has never cooked for him before. Mizuki then tells Yoh to shower with him.

Squeezed in the tub, with him in between Mizuki’s arms, Yoh finally tells him that he has been fired and that his manga is a failure. Before going to bed, Mizuki blow-dries Yoh’s hair and compares him to a wind shift, or a nagi. Where the wind may stay still or move, but another wind will blow again and change its trajectory. Mizuki brings Yoh to his own bedroom and cuddles him to sleep, where Yoh apologizes for failing to do his household chores. To his surprise, Mizuki tells him he is happy to be able to take care of him. Yoh couldn’t help but think again that they felt like a real couple. He starts kissing Mizuki and initiating sex, thinking that it will distract him from the sadness and despair that he feels.

The next day, Yoh makes an effort to resume his usual pattern of performing his domestic responsibilities, but he soon becomes unhappy once more and wonders why Mizuki is still putting up with him when he isn’t that skilled in the kitchen or bedroom. He couldn’t help but compare himself to the female weather forecaster who appears on the show alongside Mizuki while watching him in Everyday Weather. He meets with Man-san once more and discusses his present issue in order to divert his attention. Man-san complains that Yoh doesn’t actually have a problem and is only bragging about how smitten Mizuki is with him. Despite her early complaints, Man-san comforts Yoh and explains that not all manga artists become famous right away and that many still struggle to make ends meet. She advises him to follow what he really wants and not what people around him want when Yoh suggests he try a new career instead. She then shows him a drawing of him and Mizuki that she had drawn, informing him that she had placed it online and that it had become popular with the subject of having a popular and attractive boyfriend in secret. Man-san tells Yoh his relationship with Mizuki served as inspiration for it, and she asks him to assist her in developing it because she believes it has great commercial potential. Yoh, who saw it as a job, excitedly agrees.

Yoh is startled when Mizuki takes a day off from work on the day he was supposed to go to Man-san’s house to begin working on the manga. To be allowed to go out, he lies and tells Mizuki that he is employed by a different publisher because he is unable to tell him that the manga they will be working on is inspired by the two of them. Yoh is dragged into Mizuki’s lap and reminded of their agreement because Mizuki believes Yoh is lying and might be doing something shady. He adds that he doesn’t mind if Yoh stops becoming a manga artist and offers to help him out financially if he needs it. This infuriated Yoh since, to him, Mizuki was showing no interest in what he was passionate about, despite him believing that Mizuki had been his supporter throughout the entire process. Yoh storms out of the house, shouting that he will soon make more money from his manga than Mizuki.

From the balcony, Mizuki watches Yoh go away while running a mobile application attached to a location tracker he placed in Yoh’s bag earlier.

Writer’s Thoughts:

This brings us back to Episode 2, where Mizuki seemed unconcerned with Yoh’s passion for his manga, despite the fact that this was the basis on which Yoh consented to live with him. With how poorly their talk ended, it won’t come as a surprise if Yoh becomes upset that Mizuki placed a location tracker on him without his consent (who would be?) Stay tuned for ‘My Personal Weatherman’ Episode 6 to drop on September 29 to learn more about their past before they became who they are now!
