‘Barbie’ Actress Hari Nef To Star In Trans Icon Candy Darling Biopic

Hi, Barbie! We have some good news for you!

“Barbie” star trans actress Hari Nef is reported to star in an upcoming biopic for the trans legend Candy Darling.

The film will follow Darling’s childhood in Long Island through her years along with other underground superstars such as Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis in Andy Warhol’s Factory scene. The Factory was Warhol’s studio in New York City, which was famous for its parties in the 1960s.

It will also delve into her influence on several great musicians like Lou Reed and Patti Smith. Darling was also immortalized in the Rolling Stones’ song “Citadel” and is the inspiration for the song “Candy Says” by the Velvet Underground. She was also one of the subjects of Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.”

Darling starred in Warhol’s cult film ‘Women In Revolt’ before unfortunately succumbing from lymphoma in 1974 at the age of just 29.

Zackary Drucker will direct the upcoming movie about the Warhol superstar with Nef as the lead.

Nef’s acting credits include roles in ‘Assassination Nation’ and ‘You’ but her breakthrough role was Gittel in the Amazon original comedy-drama series ‘Transparent’, for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2016. She has also appeared on stage, starring in ‘Daddy’, ‘Des Moines, and Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’.

Christian D. Bruun, Katrina Wolfe, and Louis Spiegler are producing, with Stephanie Kornick previously announced as a screenwriter.
