Episode 10
Shang Zhou’s mother unexpectedly arrives, just as Shun Yu and Shang Zhou are ready to confess their love for one another and formalize their relationship. She accuses Shun Yu of manipulating her son in front of everyone, and she slaps him twice. She declares that without the company her, Shang Zhou is nothing and that as a result, his lavish lifestyle will be one that Shun Yu can’t support. Shun Yu asks Shang Zhou if he’ll be comfortable leading a simple life with him, eating only toast for breakfast or just riding a scooter to work, to which the latter responds that he can as long as he has Shun Yu with him. Shang Zhou’s mother offers Shun Yu money to stay away from Shang Zhou, and they settle for a $100 million check. To her surprise, Shun Yu simply tears it apart in front of her and questions her for thinking that her son’s life can be valued with money. He then asks her sarcastically if she is aware of her son’s sleeping issues or if she is aware of the things that worry her son, expressing his continued perception that Shang Zhou’s mother is only present in her capacity as the company’s chairman. Shun Yu promises to stick by Shang Zhou and declares with confidence that Shang Zhou now has him. She turns on her son and threatens to take away both the company and his inheritance if he stays with Shun Yu, knowing that she won’t be able to persuade him to leave. Shang Zhou, much to her surprise, responds that although he once believed those to be everything, he now realizes that material possessions are meaningless without Shun Yu. Stunned by her son’s brave declarations, Shang Zhou’s mother is left speechless as the two sprint together, holding hands firmly.
With their cheap coffee in hand rather than an expensive one, the two dash outside after gathering their belongings. Shun Yu pulls out his notebook for personal bookkeeping and begins to jot down a list of their out-of-work expenses as well as strategies for saving money. He promises that they will simply go to his parent’s breakfast diner for assistance if the time ever comes when he is unable to support Shang Zhou. To Shun Yu’s surprise, Shang Zhou simply takes his notebook and throws it away, saying that even though he won’t have the company anymore, he still has enough stocks and savings to support them. Still, he can’t help but make fun of Shun Yu for being his sugar daddy. Following that, they move into Shun Yu’s modest apartment, where Shang Zhou presents him with a matching bracelet and informs him that it’s a guarantee of their new contract as boyfriends. Days go by, and Shang Zhou discovers a simpler life with Shun Yu—doing groceries together, for example, or discouraging him from spending a lot of money on stuff he doesn’t need—that somehow makes him happier than before.
