Episode 3

As the weather improves, Yoh’s new manga is criticized by his editor for including a love confession rather than an erotica scene. He laments it while watching Mizuki in Everyday Weather, who reports that the rainy season will end soon.

Mizuki, who is on his way to work, passes by Yoh, who is waiting for Man-san in a coffee shop to work on their storyboards together. Mizuki teases him, saying it reminds him of Yoh showing him his cafe sketches when they were still in university. Man-san arrives shortly after and notices Mizuki’s back as he walks away. She immediately assumes that the person who left is Yoh’s boyfriend and congratulates him for having a good-looking one.

The two manga artists start brainstorming about the editor’s criticism of Yoh’s work. Man-san comments that a love confession does not necessarily have to be in words but can be conveyed in the character’s facial expressions, shading of the panels, or using lines that may not be an exact “I love you” but an expression of love. Thinking that Yoh sounds like a high school virgin with how he wants his manga to flow, Man asks him why he continues to draw heterosexual couples instead of Boys Love since he has a boyfriend, making Yoh wonder if he ever told her that Mizuki is a boyfriend. Man-san also noticed that Yoh did not exclaim, as usual, that he dislikes Mizuki Segasaki when she mentions his name.

Mizuki approaches Yoh while doing household chores and invites him out the next day. Despite the fact that he finds it out of the blue, Yoh agrees shyly. The following day when Yoh mentions that it’s his first time in Yokohama, Mizuki teases him for never being there on a date. Yoh silently wonders why they are out in the first place. Meanwhile, his stomach grumbles right when Mizuki asks him why he didn’t bring his sketchbook on that day. Mizuki teases him again for not simply saying he’s hungry and asks him what he wants to eat. He playfully repeats “Chinese food” after Yoh responds that he wants one. They walk to Chinatown and find a food stall where they order a ridiculously expensive pork bun and Taiwanese chicken, which Mizuki pays for. When Yoh mentions how good the pork bun is, Mizuki bites into it suddenly before agreeing and telling Yoh not to worry about the price. Meanwhile, Yoh is taken aback by the size of the Taiwanese chicken, which is nearly the same size as Mizuki’s face. Mizuki, who finds Yoh’s expression endearing, asks him to take a picture for him before sharing the food.

They continue to walk around and, surprisingly, enjoy each other’s company, discovering that they have similar food and beverage preferences. Yoh notices and stares at the Yokohama Air Cabin (cable cars) while taking a break, and Mizuki drags him to ride it. Mizuki sits in front of a motionless Yoh, who avoids looking out the gondola’s transparent window panes then moves to sit beside him after realizing he is afraid of the height. Mizuki then offers his hand for Yoh to hold. Although Yoh attempts to explain that his hand is sweaty, Mizuki grabs it instead, leading Yoh to feel that their outing is a date. Following the ride, they go to a clothing store, where Yoh assumes he will be carrying Mizuki’s shopping bags, which may be why he brought him along. When a female shop assistant approaches Yoh to recommend clothing that will fit him, Mizuki steps in and pushes another item he chose instead. Mizuki insists that it will fit Yoh and whispers that he will buy it for him, which startles the latter.

The two are silently walking towards an intersection when Yoh suggests that Mizuki go to a place he enjoys, and they spend the day separately doing their own thing. Mizuki sarcastically remarks that Yoh probably thinks spending his day off with someone he hates isn’t fun before leaving and telling him to meet him again at the same place later. Yoh instead sits in the same spot to wait for Mizuki, only leaving when he spills his water on himself. When he returns with a shopping bag in his hand, Mizuki is already waiting for him with one on him. As they head home, Yoh realizes that he doesn’t like how loud his heart beats when he sees Mizuki looking like he’s having fun while listening to him talk or hearing his gentle voice in Everyday Weather. Finally, he acknowledges to himself that he has been trying to hate Mizuki because he does not want to admit that he does not hate him.

Back at home, Mizuki hands him the paper bag containing the clothing he offered to buy for him in the store. To Mizuki’s surprise, Yoh apologizes instead of thanking him before dumping the contents of his shopping bag, which turns out to be new bedsheets. Mizuki pushes him onto the sofa before asking if this means he’s ready to do it in any weather. He kisses him after complimenting him on a job well done. They go to Yoh’s room, where Mizuki teases him that with more sheets, they can now always do what he wants, which is to have sex.

Mizuki teases Yoh for having to do “it” with someone he hates after they remove their clothes, causing him to turn away. Mizuki pulls him back and kisses him deeply after whispering to Yoh in a playful tone that he is an idiot.

Later, he cuddles the sleeping manga artist before saying that he can tell Yoh likes him just by looking.

Writer’s Thoughts

‘My Personal Weatherman’ Episode 3, is a lot of fun to watch! It gave us the typical “this is not a date until he says so” trope, making our hearts beat loudly as well, though perhaps not as loudly as Yoh’s heart sounds when he’s with Mizuki. Mizuki, on the other hand, appears to be playing his cards very well; while he is aware that his feelings for Yoh are not unrequited, he wants the manga artist to realize it for himself by giving him dating ideas and pushing his buttons! I guess Man-san’s observation that the weather forecaster is extremely intelligent is correct. With the way the two’s relationship is developing, we’re certainly looking forward to Episode 4, which teases Yoh revealing to Man-san that he’s been living with Mizuki the entire time!
