WATCH: Filipino Gay Wrestler Comedy ‘Fuchsia Libre’ Releases Funny Trailer

Details are still unknown for the movie except that Contis will be playing a gay wrestler seeking the acceptance of his authoritarian father, played by the award-winning Arcilla.

On playing a gay character, Contis promised viewers in an interview with Inquirer Entertainment that it “will not be a caricature” and that he intends to take the role seriously  in order to “not fail a huge group.”

“First of all, I agreed to do the project because of its serious take on the role of the LGBTQIA+ community in our society. I want to help broaden people’s understanding and acceptance of their group. This is the main challenge of the movie for me. I recently received materials that I’m supposed to study for this role,” he said.

Meanwhile, Arcilla said that he liked that the story is “very relevant.” The Venice International Film Festival Best Actor winner said that it is “good” that issues related to the queer community are being discussed in detail as opposed to being “dismissive” albeit people still have no idea how to be accepting.

“Are we able to truthfully accept or are we merely trying to tolerate them? As for the gay son, will he still be happy with his identity if his parents reject him?” Arcilla said in the interview.
