Queer romantic comedy ’Red, White & Royal Blue’ is about to hit our screens this August, and it’s proudly raising the LGBTQ+ flag as it sticks to casting queer actors for its roles, including secret service agent and Alex’s bodyguard Amy played by trans actor Aneesh Sheth!
Sheth, 41, who was born in India but grew up in the United States, landed one of her high-profile roles in her acting career as Amy in the upcoming novel-turned-Prime Video film. In the original novel written by Casey McQuiston, Amy is described as a trans woman and former Navy SEAL with a no-nonsense attitude. However, there is no reference as to whether the character will be played by a trans actor in the film adaptation. And so, to cast Sheth — a trans woman actor — is, as PinkNews described, “a rare and much-needed example of a trans actor being cast in a role that doesn’t center around their gender identity.”
In her Instagram post after filming, Sheth has nothing but love and praise for the production. Sharing an image of her with the lead stars Taylor Zakhar Perez (Alex) and Nicholas Galitzine (Henry). “Being a part of this film has changed my life — in so many ways I did not think possible,” she said. She also thanked her followers for the continuous support she received throughout the filming. As for Perez and Galitzine, she described them as her “angels” and that she loves them “with every cell in [her] heart and soul.”
