Rhaenyra of ‘House of the Dragon’ Kissed A Girl and Liked It! But At What Cost?

Rhaenyra is confirmed to be a ‘girl kisser’ to which homophobes are revolting.

After Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) spares Sonoya Mizuno’s character Mysaria earlier in the sophomore season of ‘House of the Dragon’, the banished queen is able to gain the trust and loyalty of ‘The White Worm’.

As Daemon continues to absent himself in Dragonstone, the cunning and mysterious woman begins to establish herself as a trustworthy confidant and advisor of Rhaenyra who reaffirms her ability and deservingness to be queen of Westeros.

In the sixth episode of the second season, Mysaria opens up about her traumatic and devastating past to Rhaenyra. After their tight and healing embrace, the two share a heated and passionate kiss.

Although the scene was positively received by most fans especially those who felt robbed by the lack of Alicent and Rhaenyra sapphic plot, CapitalFM reported a ‘review bombing’ of the episode. The episode is currently rated 6.2%/10 which is the lowest out of all episodes in the series thus far. In this statistic, 36% of the viewers rated the episode with only 1 star with most of the comments singling out the kiss. However, this is balanced by the 23.3% of the reviews defending the sapphic kiss.

It was then revealed in an interview that the kiss was not scripted! D’Arcy first suggested the change to the director after contemplating that it was only natural for the character to reach out for an intimate expression of affection as they understood Rhaenyra as someone “sexual” and an embodied character who knows when her body is calling for something.

Mizuno agreed with them and added that the kiss felt like a great way to show the organic growth of their relationship.

The season finale of ‘House of The Dragon’ season 2 streams next week on HBO.
