‘Our Flag Means Death’ Creator Eyes Third and Possibly Final Season Renewal

‘Our Flag Means Death’ creator David Jenkins expressed interest in the renewal for a third season of the hit gay pirate series but there is a catch.

Right on the heels of releasing the first teaser for the impending season, Jenkins replied to an Instagram comment, saying that should there be a third season, it would most likely be the final one of the Max series.

This news came via an Instagram interaction between Jenkins and YouTuber Kristin Chirico. Chirico commented on the creator’s trailer reel spazzing about the upcoming season. Jenkins responded, writing “Help get us picked up for a third (and final) season and we’ll talk.”

In the meantime, fans can look forward to the quickly approaching season two. After a fan-led campaign for a follow-up to the first season, viewers can see more of the world of swashbuckling pirates as the series picks up where it left off with Blackbeard (played by Taika Waititi) believing that Stede (played by Rhys Darby) had fully abandoned him which leads him to turn against some of Stede’s crew and re-embrace his dangerous side.

‘Our Flag Means Death’ debuted in March 2022 with a 10-episode first season. It is loosely based on the real-life adventures of affluent Stede Bonnet who decides to trade his life on land for that in the sea. Bonnet eventually captains his own ship and pirate crew although he struggles to fully gain their respect. The tides turn for Bonnet after he meets the infamous pirate Blackbeard, which sparks an unexpected friendship that leads to romance.

The second season of ‘Our Flag Means Death’ premieres on Max on October 5.
