The long wait is almost over for fans of the queer animated film ‘Nimona’ as it will finally come out in June!
‘Nimona’ is an animated fantasy film based on the graphic novel by ND Stevenson of the same title. Stevenson is also the creator of ‘She-Ra and the Princess of Power’. Nimona tells the story of Nimona, a shape-shifting girl who was hired to be the sidekick for a reluctant supervillain named Ballister Blackheart, a knight framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Nimona will be voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz while Ballister Blackheart will be voiced by Riz Ahmed.
Although there has been no exact date, Netflix said it will be released in June — a perfect month for the queer community as June is also Pride Month.
‘Nimona’ has been in the works since 2015 when Disney got the rights under Blue Sky Studios. However, in 2021, when Disney announced the shutting down of Blue Sky Studios, production was also canceled. The following year, Stevenson announced that the film has been picked up by Annapurna Pictures and that it will be released on Netflix.
Nimona’s always been a spunky little story that just wouldn’t stop. She’s a fighter…but she’s also got some really awesome people fighting for her. I am excited out of my mind to announce that THE NIMONA MOVIE IS ALIVE…coming at you in 2023 from Annapurna and Netflix 🤘 pic.twitter.com/wEZuM2sXTt
