‘Married at First Sight’ (MAFS) trans contestant Ella Clarke discussed why it was important to introduce her grandmother in the reality series.
After finding a spark with JJ Slater and eventually switching partners for each other, both Clarke and Slater were allowed to re-enter the competition.
Now, the 29-year-old trans bride has introduced her new “husband” to one of the most important people in her life: her grandmother.
The reality star has come out in an interview to share why introducing her nan, Valerie, to Slater was a priority for her, saying “She’s 90 and to be that open-minded with your granddaughter and, obviously, my transition – she was fully supportive.”
Clarke said that she wanted to be sure that MAFS fans saw her amazing relationship with her grandmother to showcase that older relatives are more than capable of accepting and supporting trans people.
The star expressed that a lot of people have come up to her and said that their grandparents will never be able to accept their transness but Clarke said that shares that Valerie has and therefore age should not be an excuse for older people.
“So, to me she’s inspiring to young trans boys and girls, or anyone, actually, who’s trans that watches this show can be like, ‘See, her dad supports her, her family, her brothers, her mum, her nan.’ So I’ve got an amazing relationship with her,” Clarke said in the interview.
