‘Down Low’, a new gay comedy film, is yet to have its public release, but with reviews saying it is probably one of the most chaotic films of 2023, it is not surprising that one of its main actors, Lukas Gage, revealed he channeled an equally chaotic reference for his character!
In the film, Gage plays the role of Cameron, a masseuse, and sex-positive twink who literally gives Gary, played by his co-star, 46-year-old Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, a helping hand (yep, that “hand”).
He then encourages Quinto to join a gay dating app when he learns that the older is yet to experience his first, all-the-way sex with another man. They then meet with Sammy through the app, played by ‘Law and Order’ actor Sebastian Arroyo, who is closeted, angry, and “soon to be dead.”
With his bold and brassy actions, one may ask where Gage took inspiration for his character. He then tells Entertainment Weekly that he was inspired by the “Demon Twink” that consumed queer Twitter around the time of filming.
“Demon Twink” is the nickname given to a gay twink who allegedly brought some craziness to a Britney boat party in New York in July of 2021. According to DJ Ty Sunderland who performed at the party, the said “Demon Twink” whose identity is still unknown, “threw a drink at the DJ equipment” and “wouldn’t get off the stage unless [the DJ] stopped the music.”
As the party ended, he was found in the VIP section where he was, according to Sunderland, “getting his ass ate like out in the open.”
