The gays are coming to Venice!
With a smash hit in his belt with the recently released ‘Challengers’, Luca Guadagnino is not wasting any time as his next theatrical project ‘Queer’ is slated for an international debut at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival in August.
Top-billed by veteran actor Daniel Craig who gave audiences a first taste of his take on a queer character as the well-loved detective Benoit Blanc in the ‘Knives Out’ series (heavily implied as the husband of a cutie baker played by none other than Hugh Grant), Craig is about to wow audiences for his upcoming portrayal of a gay man battling drug addiction while living in Mexico City together with other American ex-pats in the 40s.
For book fiends, you might know that ‘Queer’ is an adaptation of a book of the same name by the influential Beat Generation author, William S. Burroughs. In the book, Craig’s character who becomes self-conscious and insecure of himself and his appearance simultaneously begins a relationship with a younger American Navy serviceman (to be played by Drew Starkey) while looking for a transcendental drug called ‘yage’.
