The premiere of Lil Nas X’s documentary ‘Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero’ experienced a delay at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) after receiving a bomb threat, September 9.
The premiere of the rapper’s documentary on Saturday was postponed for a while after a bomb threat specifically targeted Lil Nas X for being a Black queer artist. Before the debut, the documentary’s co-directors Carlos Lopez Estrada and Zac Manuel as well as Andrew Morrow, the editor, were already on the red carpet. As Lil Nas X arrived at the venue, the organizers received the threat via phone call targeting the artist. Nas was then held inside for his safety.
The threat was first reported by Variety, however, Judy Lung, vice president, publication and communications for TIFF, in a statement to the Los Angeles Times, would not confirm if the threat was directed at Nas or not.
