A film based on the life of real-life gay wrestler ‘Cassandro’ is coming soon on Prime Video!
Titled ‘Cassandro’, the film is based on the true story of Saúl Armendáriz whose ring name is Cassandro. In Prime Video’s official website, the synopsis says: “Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, rises to international stardom after he creates the character Cassandro, the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.” In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world, but also his own life.”
Armendáriz began his professional wrestling career in 1988 as “Mister Romano”. However, a year later, he was encouraged to abandon the character and take on a new exotico (a male wrestler fighting/performing in drag). He changed his ring name to Cassandro in late 1989.
