LGBTQ+ Inclusive Show ‘A League of Their Own’ Reportedly Getting Scrapped

A League Of Their Own

LGBTQ+ inclusive series ‘A League of Their Own’ will reportedly not get its previously announced second and final season.

Following the huge success of an Amazon Prime Video queer movie, a Prime original series, led by queer and sapphic characters, is now reportedly getting scrapped.

‘A League Of Their Own’ was initially reported to be renewed for what was meant to be an abbreviated final season back in April. The first season consisted of eight episodes, while the planned final season was meant to have just four. Several media sites shared that the show was another casualty of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. With writers and actors still on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), production for Season 2 will not happen any time soon. That would likely mean the final season would not premiere before 2025, with the first season having aired in August 2022.

“A League of Their Own” follows women baseball players in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, founded while men were away in World War II. It was based on the classic film of the same name and was directed by Penny Marshall.

It features several queer characters and was created by the queer duo, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham. Jacobson also stars in the series as Carson who falls in love with fellow player Greta (D’Arcy Carden). Chante Adams plays Max, a Black queer woman rejected by the all-white women’s league and seeks opportunities with men’s Black teams. Other LGBTQ+ characters in the show include Max’s transgender uncle, Bertie, played by nonbinary actor Lea Robinson.

The official description of the series says that it follows  “the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.”

Prime Video has not yet reached out to the media to confirm or deny the news.
