Marvel has stepped up its representation game when it introduced a lesbian character in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’!
WARNING: Spoilers ahead!
Phyla-Vell, a character that already appeared in the comics, was introduced in the post-credit scene. Throughout the film, the audience would see glimpses of a white-haired young girl created by the High Evolutionary, the villain of the movie. Then at the end, the girl joins the all-new Guardians as the original team members go their separate ways. She is portrayed by Kai Zen.
In the comics, Phyla-Vell is the daughter of Mar-Vell and the sister of Genis-Vell. In Captain Marvel (Vol. 5), it was heavily hinted that Phyla-Vell is a lesbian, and she also admits that she is attracted to Moondragon. Throughout her story, she’s been known under different names such as Quasar, Captain Marvel, and Martyr.
