Katy O’Brian Sends Body Positive Message For Women Through ‘Love Lies Bleeding’

‘Love Lies Bleeding’ star Katy O’Brian is sharing a body-positive message to women through the lesbian thriller film.

In an interview with Out, the 35-year-old bodybuilder actor expressed that starring in the movie was a chance for her to celebrate her body.

“I am/was a bodybuilder, and so often, I feel like that might hinder my castability because people aren’t so used to seeing bodies like that on screen. I remember how big of a deal it was when the new-ish Wonder Woman came out, and they had all the Amazons and they’re in the background. And I’m like, ‘Let’s bring those forward though,’” she said in the interview.

O’Brian added that she was really excited about Glass wanting to “unapologetically show” more and push what people would consider a masculine body in the forefront of her movie.

The actor also opened up about getting comments that question her gender, but said that she ignores them and points out, “It’s important that people don’t judge bodies just based off how they look.”

In addition, the actor shared that her outfits in the movie were specifically done by the costume designer, Olga, to show off her body which made her feel “hot, cool, and empowered.”

The official synopsis for the film says it’s “an electric new love story; reclusive gym manager Lou (Stewart) falls hard for Jackie (O’Brian), an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.”

The film also stars Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, Dave Franco, and Ed Harris.

‘Love Lies Bleeding’ is currently playing in select theaters.
