The new queer Western short film ‘Strange Way of Life’ is gaining waves as it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17. With its director Pedro Almodóvar describing the film as a response to ‘Brokeback Mountain’, the question now is, how erotic can ‘Strange Way of Life’ get?
The short answer is, it is erotic but not explicit. It is not as graphic, with the exception perhaps of Pascal’s short exposure of his butt, but it shows a lot of tender, emotional, and intimate scenes.
‘Strange Way of Life’ tells the story of two men, Silva (Pascal) and Sheriff Jake (Hawke), who meet again after 25 years. Jake then tells Silva that there is more to their reunion than just revisiting their friendship. Almodóvar described it as “a queer western in the sense that there are two men, and they love each other, and they behave in that situation in an opposite way.”
