‘Heartstopper’ actor Kit Connor opened up on how fan pressure led him to come out as bisexual.
In an interview with Vogue UK, Connor revealed that he would have “preferred to do it in another way”, rather than via Twitter under the watchful eye of the world.
After being pictured holding hands with his ‘A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow’ co-star Maia Reficco, ‘Heartstopper’ fans accused him of “queerbaiting” by refusing to clarify his sexuality which forced Connor to come on Twitter to speak up.
“I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18-year-old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye,” he tweeted.
Connor has since deleted his Twitter account after coming out.
While he initially said that he had been “forced” by fans to reveal his bisexuality, Connor now went back on his statement and said that he posted it because he “just needed to let that energy out.”
“I think ‘forced’ isn’t the right word, but I would say that I would have preferred to do it another way. I also don’t know if I would have ever done it. But, at the end of the day, I don’t regret it. In many ways, it was empowering,” he said in the Vogue interview.
