GL short ‘Stand-in Love’ actress Aya Fernandez calls for more sapphic representation in mainstream media.
In a recent ABS-CBN News interview, Fernandez said that she hopes the short episode that she had with ‘Stand-in Love’ will give birth to more as producers see that there is a market for sapphic stories.
“I see it as a very hopeful opportunity, that hopeful there could be more… The numbers, the engagement, may it be proof to the producers that there is a market, that these stories are so cute, and they’re so worth telling not only for the LGBTQIA+ community but also to the world. It’s just simply two souls falling in love, that’s how I see it, honestly,” she said.
Fernandez added that she hopes more actors would be willing to play queer roles, albeit in their own time.
“I see it as a progressive step, and I feel very hopeful about it. I hope more and more actors would be willing. But it’s also at their own pace, right?”
The actress continued to say that she hopes her work becomes a “beacon of hope” and that she feels extremely hopeful about it.
Fernandez gained applause and praises online for her performance and expressed that she was in awe at the warm response towards her by fans, with viewers calling for their episode to be a full series.
“I feel more inspired to do better in my craft because this is bigger than me– than me, as an actor, as Aya seeing acting as a craft, seeing acting as a healing journey for me. It’s much more than me, and it’s about the people who deserve to be seen and heard in mainstream media. It’s about damn time,” she said.
