Streaming platform GagaOOLala is set to release a series of original content for the Western pink market in 2023.
The global streaming platform has revealed its lineup of original content to entertain Western fans of original Asian queer media.
“We are thrilled to see the increasing demand for Asian content, particularly from the LGBTQ+ community. Our platform serves as a conduit for cross-cultural understanding and acceptance, and we are humbled to play a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity and diversity,” the CEO of GagaOOLala Jay Lin said.
Lin shared that in terms of global streaming wars, the platform is “a bit player compared to the other giants.” He also said that while there are other LGBT-focused services in Europe and the US, most contents are almost exclusively Western. Furthermore, Lin pointed out the scarcity of Asian titles and said that the few existing are more Asian American or are from a Western perspective.
LGBT Capital has estimated the pink economy’s worth as 3.9 trillion dollars and is still growing. In response to the increasing clamor, the global streaming platform unveiled titles of new and returning series for the Western audience.
This includes the second season of the sapphic series, ‘Fragrance of the First Flower,’ which was previously announced to have already started filming and is set to premiere globally in 2024.
