‘My Partner,’ the first Hawaiian BL film, held a special premiere night in the Philippines on June 17, Saturday, ahead of its theatrical release in its origin country.
The screening was graced by one of the lead actors, Jayron Muñoz, along with co-star Alaka’i Lastimado and the film’s writer, Lance Collins, at the Red Carpet Cinema of Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong where they answered some of the questions from the audience. Muñoz’s partner in the film, Kaipo Dudoit, however, was unable to attend.
Philippine Congresspersons, Rep. Raoul Manuel and former Rep. Sarah Elago of the KABATAAN party list were also seen attending the private screening.
In case Filipino BL fans missed it though, the good news is that ‘My Partner’ will have other screenings in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, and Panglao, Bohol with dates yet to be announced.
Directed by Kanaka Maoli filmmaker Keli’i Grace, the film focuses on the relationship between Edmar (played by Muñoz), a high-performing Filipino student, and Pili (played by Dudoit), a native Hawaiian student-athlete, as they work together as a team in their school, and ultimately come to understand each other’s backgrounds and cultures int he midst of their clashing peer groups in Hawaii.
