Filipino BL ‘Gameboys: The Movie’ To Hit Theaters Through Film Festival in Manila

Gameboys

The movie sequel of the hit Filipino BL series ‘Gameboys’ has been selected to hit theaters at the Tingin Southeast Asian Film Festival in Manila, Philippines from September 22 to 24.

Released in 2021, ‘Gameboys: The Movie’ is a continuation of the love story between “gaymers” Cairo, played by Elijah Canlas (‘About Us But Not About Us’, ‘Fuccbois’, ‘Die Beautiful’, ‘How to Die Young in Manila’), and Gavreel, played by Kokoy de Santos (‘Fuccbois’, ‘Die Beautiful’, ‘How to Die Young in Manila’), who meet during a livestream gaming session and eventually fall in love despite mobility restrictions during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.

Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal and written by Ash Malanum and Jun Lana, ‘Gameboys: The Movie’ still features the gamers-turned-lovers as they spend time together in Cairo’s province. Their relationship, however, is tested as they deal with distance, the ongoing pandemic, and the people around them.

While the Tingin Southeast Asian Film Festival will be streamed on Vimeo from September 29 to October 1, ‘Gameboys: The Movie’ will be exclusively screened in theaters at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall only and will not be shown on Vimeo or Solar Flix.

Tingin Southeast Asian Film Festival is a project of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines. It showcases films from Southeast Asian nations and is the Philippines’ longest-running and only film festival dedicated to Southeast Asian cinema. This 2023 season is the festival’s sixth year.

Gameboys: The Movie’ is currently available on GagaOOLala and other streaming sites. Check out the trailer below:
