Enough with the sad gay films, ‘Drive-away Dolls’ is set to offer a thrilling lesbian road-chase spectacle this February 2024.
The film’s writers—and couple!— Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke were candid in an exclusive interview with Empire, stating that they are not capable of making a mopey lesbian movie. They further said, “There are movies about the pain of being gay. That can be a good movie or a bad movie, like any other, but that is not something we were going to do. We have people for that.”
True to their statement, the trailer is far from being depressing! The sneak peek introduces Jamie (Margaret Qualley) a heartbroken lesbian who, after her breakup, is eager to go on a soul-freeing trip to sunny Tallahassee to start fresh and renounce love for good along with her uptight friend Marian (Gerladine Viswanathan) who wants a break from her unhappy and monotonous life. As they rent their get-away car, they are mistaken to be part of a criminal syndicate that is tasked to deliver a mysterious briefcase to—you guessed it— Tallahassee. As they run from their problems, they also find themselves on the run from the dangerous syndicate.
