‘Bridgerton’ author Julia Quinn is taking her stance against the naysayers and homophobes about the show’s casting.
Quinn came to the defense of Jess Brownell over the decision to genderswap the love interest of the sixth Bridgerton sibling, Francesca (played by Hannah Dodd).
Francesca’s story in her book “When He Was Wicked,” the sixth of the book series, follows the aftermath of her first husband’s death, John Stirling. In mourning him, she finds comfort and romance in John’s cousin, Michael Stirling, who was revealed to have always harbored romantic feelings for her from the start.
However, following the finale of the show’s third season, fans of the books were in an uproar on social media after the introduction of Michaela Stirling (played by Masali Baduza), confirming Baduza as Dodd’s love interest in the series.
Despite the pushback from fans, Quinn defended Brownell and Baduza who have been getting flak from fans of the show for the eventual sapphic romance for the series, saying the swap “destroyed” the original storyline.
