‘Bridgerton’ Showrunner Teases A Happily Queer-ever After for Francesca

Finally, a sapphic-centered romance in ‘Bridgerton’ land!

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Bridgerton Season 3 (but who hasn’t seen it really?)

After a shocking bend (*wink* *wink*) of events in the third season of ‘Bridgerton’, Francesca, the sixth Bridgerton child, is confirmed to be queer through the reveal of her future beau, Michaela Stirling.

For those who are not well versed in the ‘Bridgerton’ literary saga, Michaela Stirling is the gender-bent version of Michael Stirling from the ‘When He Was Wicked’ book of the aforementioned series.

Showrunner Jess Brownell spoke to Teen Vogue regarding the collective decision to bring Michaela to life and even shared that she got Julia Quinn’s (the author) blessing.

She also made mention of the about the impossibility of creating a story that will satisfy all audiences and the importance of calling the shots.

“The fact of the matter is, the fan base is not a monolith, and you’re never going to please every single side of the fan base. I think something that has been a real growth point for me, stepping into the showrunner role, is that I’ve always been a people pleaser, and someone who wants to give everyone what they want — but in this job, you have to make difficult decisions”

Brownell also confessed that as a queer woman, she very much related to Francesa in the books. She shared how she felt the importance of incorporating queer romances into the show that had a happy ending.

We don’t know yet if Francesca and Michaela’s love story will be season 4’s focus but Brownell promised that Michaela will surely be around for us to love!
