Bradley Cooper Transforms Into the Queer Leonard Bernstein for ‘Maestro’

The film is described as “a towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, ‘Maestro’, at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.”

The cast features Cooper as Bernstein, Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre, Glick as Tommy Cothran, Maya Hawke as Jamie Bernstein, Sarah Silverman as Shirley Bernstein, Sam Nivola as Alexander Bernstein, Alexa Swinton as Nina Bernstein, Michael Urie as Jerome Robbins, Miriam Shor as Cynthia O’Neal, and Matt Bomer who is speculated to play Bernstein’s main male love interest in the film.

Hailing from Lawrence, Massachusetts, the Jewish conductor won 16 Grammy Awards, seven Emmy Awards, and two Tony Awards. He was well-known for the Broadway musical West Side Story. The composer died in 1990 at 72 years old in New York City. He was brought back to the spotlight last year when the character of Lydia Tár (played by Cate Blanchett) referenced Bernstein as her mentor in the 2022 film ‘Tár.’

Maestro will premiere in select theaters on November 22 and on Netflix on December 20.
