Gay actor and comedian Bowen Yang dished out his gay character in the film.
Following the debut of the highly anticipated ‘Wicked’ trailer during the Super Bowl broadcast, the pop-culture and comedy podcast co-hosted by Yang and Matt Rogers called ‘Las Culturistas’ on Wednesday, February 14, talked about new details about the SNL comedian’s character, Pfannee, and the process that went into bringing him to life.
“Everyone, get ready: I’m really showing my range, I’m playing a gay guy. But, you know, I’m playing a hater for the first time. He’s not just any gay guy — Pfannee is a hater. This guy SUCKS! Frankly, he’s a racist. He sees a green person and he goes, ‘I’m gonna f*cking ruin that person’s life,’” Yang said in the podcast.
The Saturday Night Live star has officially been cast in the Jon M. Chu-helmed movie adaptation of the popular musical ‘Wicked’ in December 2022. Yang, who previously appeared in 2023’s famous queer films such as ‘Bros’ and ‘Fire Island’ will play Pfannee, Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo), and Glinda’s (Ariana Grande) sassy classmate.
