Ben Hardy revealed that he and co-star Jason Patel had “instant” chemistry working together on their new queer romance ‘Unicorns’ which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
To test their chemistry, directors Sally El Hosaini and James Krishna Floyd asked the two actors to perform some scenes from the script — Hardy as the hardworking single father and Patel as a South Asian drag queen. From there, Hardy said that it was an instant spark.
“I don’t think you can cheat that,” the 32-year-old actor said about having the best — if not perfect — chemistry with your co-actor. “I think it’s either there or it’s not. I’ve done things before, I won’t name them, where I’ve tried to manufacture chemistry and spent a lot of time with people.”
“But I think it is like when you fall in love, sometimes you meet someone, you hit it off and things go from there. I think if you don’t have that on screen, it shows,” Hardy added, but makes a quick clarification that they’re not in love with each other.
