“Barbie” star trans actress Hari Nef is reported to star in an upcoming biopic for the trans legend Candy Darling.
The film will follow Darling’s childhood in Long Island through her years along with other underground superstars such as Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis in Andy Warhol’s Factory scene. The Factory was Warhol’s studio in New York City, which was famous for its parties in the 1960s.
It will also delve into her influence on several great musicians like Lou Reed and Patti Smith. Darling was also immortalized in the Rolling Stones’ song “Citadel” and is the inspiration for the song “Candy Says” by the Velvet Underground. She was also one of the subjects of Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.”
